Tsuga is the taxonomy designation for Hemlock trees growing in Oregon. Hemlock trees are important secondary species growing out of nurse logs and old-growth stumps where they must expose their roots to become established characters in a mature forest. Tsuga trees illustrate to youth the benefits of open communication and self reflection to better understand their individual purpose to belong within a community.
Tsuga Community Commission (TCC) was founded in 2008 to serve as a social entrepreneurship initiative to build community capacity and social capital between and within Oregon youth communities. TCC is an Oregon 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Mission: "TCC conducts and responds to needs assessments identifying opportunities in youth development and community enhancement to build custom residential camp programming with complimentary professionals and collaborative organizations to produce sustainable social capital networks within and between Oregon youth communities."

Operation Purple Camp is a program of the National Military Family Association made possible nationally by the Sierra Club Foundation and Goldman Sachs Gives. TCC is proud to be selected again this year to coordinate the local fundraising and production of Operation Purple in Oregon.

Youth Plan TOO -
Toward One Oregon
TCC would like to invite youth ages 12 to 17 from all over Oregon to come together this summer and celebrate our common history, our unique persepectives on our state, and to develop a common vision for Oregon's next great generation. This program will take place over the course of a week at one of Oregon's best summer camp venues also providing the participants a fun week of summer camp together.

Consultant Camp Planning
TCC works with camp owners and management to prepare their sites for a better community development experience that supports existing and future programs goals. TCC is increasing relationships with Portland area Planning and Engineering firms to help consider the long term economic, environmental, and social equity benefits of master-planned residential camp facilities.
THE COMMUNITY COMMISSION
This group of colleagues (the Board of Directors) believes camp is more than a place to have fun, but also a venue where new and existing communities can form their shared identity, create tradition, and build social capital. One of our primary goals will always be to support the youth of Oregon military families.
THE CAMP STAFF COALITION
The Camp Staff Coalition thrives as a network of young professionals sharing in mutual career development opportunities through experiential learning. The Coalition has fun as they also take seriously their work within the nonprofit sector.
